Is George W Bush a sociopath?

Posted by pauaprincess on June 2, 2007

I was reading an article today, with regard to the US President meeting bereaved parents.  As I read, it struck me that this man lacks the ability to empathise.  I mean he is giving these bereaved parents presidential coins and telling them not to sell them on ebay? Seriously how appropriate is that?  It’s not at all apropriate, it’s not cute, it’s not funny and what would cause him to imagine that it was?

So I did some digging, apparently I’m not the first or the most learned person to have this revelation.  I found a number of articles linking the word sociopath to George W Bush.

So what is a sociopath?

  • Glibness and Superficial Charm
  • Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.
  • Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as “their right.”
  • Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
  • Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.
  • Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.
  • Incapacity for Love
  • Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.
  • Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
  • Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
  • Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet “gets by” by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.
  • Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others’ lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.
  • Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.
  • Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
  • Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

Can you see George W Bush in that profile?

Well politicians in general have the Glib and Superficial charm market cornered.  There are vast numbers of voters who recognise they’ve been conned and manipulated by Bushie.  The grandiose sense of self comes into play with statements like, if you aren’t with us you’re with the terrorists and the Constitution is just a peice of paper.  Pathological lying, WMD’s anyone?  Have you ever seen him genuinely express remorse, shame or guilt? Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, can’t get fooled again, according to the Bush Dyslexion author, that statement showed Bush cannot comprehend the idea of feeling shame.

I could go on, but other more observant people than I have noted the correlations and it’s been kicking around the internet since about 2003.  It’s noted that Bush blew up frogs as a youngster, that he never stumbles over his words when talking of violence or revenge.  Go ahead, just google George Bush, sociopath and see what you get.  This is a good example

The U.S. has military bases in 130 countries
worldwide. Hitler did not do that well.

    2. What has that got to do with the price of fish?

I’ve thought the same about Bush. But sociopaths talk a good game at all times… Bush can’t talk, he’s a verbal idiot.
Loved Martha’s book, wish I had known that info years ago.

Focusing on Bush’s failings(worst president ever, sociopath, moron)is missing a crucial point:people knew him, understood him,and wanted him to be president. These people took advantage of his incompetent leadership to do a million things that could not have happened under another administration. These same people are still out there and can truely say “mission accomplished”.

Gee, didn’t they say the same thing about Hitler? That, after all was said and done, over three million German people voted for him? Which, if it wasn’t enough to elect him, still gave him enough clout to make deals with Germany’s president to sit within his office’s inner circle of power as a buffer. That is, as someone who could help him counter or neutralize his opponents. Thus, giving Hitler, just enough room to eventually seize power.
So, isn’t this something that also reminds you of George W. Bush, considering that he was never popularly elected? Because we know that after the Florida controversy of counting votes reached a seeming impasse, the voting process was turned over to the supreme court. Where he was appointed president by 5/4 decision.
And also, didn’t Bush seize upon 9/11 to ultimately launch a preemptive war against Iraq for WMD’s? That eventually were found not to exist? As well as approving torture for no other reason than to gain false confessions that he could later use as war propaganda? Which he also did by rendering prisoners to other countries and placing then in secret locations run by the CIA? Almost a textbook definition of a gestapo or secret police.
And the list goes on with his incessant lies and deception. But then, isn’t that the way of all petty tyrants? First, ingratiating themselves to the public. Followed by tactics of fear generated by having an enemy who must be destroyed.
So you see, Bush qualifies as that likable guy down the street. The kind you’d like to have a beer with. But isn’t that also the way with people who manipulate to get what they want? And also, the kind we know as sociopaths and petty tyrants?
