Where are Pumpkin’s Parents? Grave concerns for mother!

Posted by pauaprincess on September 18, 2007

325798 It has all the elements of a classic who dunnit. 3 year old Qian Xun Xue was found abandoned at Melbourne’s Southern Cross railway station on Saturday. She and her father Xue Nai Xin arrived in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday of last week, travelling on New Zealand passports and stayed somewhere in the city. CCTV footage shows Xue Nai Xin at the Southern Cross station with his daughter, then alone. Australian Police believe he then left the country, bound for Los Angeles.

Police in New Zealand have conducted enquiries at 3 Auckland houses and have so far been unable to locate the childs mother, Anan Liu known as Annie.

“You can jump to all sorts of conclusions but there are concerns we haven’t heard from her, so yes the inquiry is being ramped up considerably,” said Inspector Dave Pearson of the NZ Police.

According to media reports, Xue Nai Xin 54 also known as Michael was active in the Auckland Chinese community, a magazine publisher and martial arts expert. Her mother Annie an international student met him approximately 5 years ago. They are believed to have separated last month with Annie moving to Wellington but according to Australian media reports to have ‘recently got back together’.

Australian, New Zealand and US police are working together to locate Mr and Mrs Xue.

Meanwhile, Qian who has been dubbed Pumpkin by Australian Police and media, due to the Pumpkin Patch label clothing she was wearing, is in foster care via the Department of Human Services. Although she is saying very little, she has been asking for her mother but is calm and composed.

“We aren’t sure if someone else was meant to collect her at the station, there are probably 50-60 scenarios,” Inspector Shallies of the Victorian Police said.

According to an Australian news site, Mr Xue is known to Auckland Police and there has been a suggestion that CYFs has been involved with the family. CYFs are neither confirming nor denying involvement. Auckland Police have confirmed a long history of Domestic Violence between the couple with protection orders being placed in the past twelve months.

Nobody is saying it outright, but the implication is that something has happened to Anan Liu. Friends have stated that she would not willingly leave or give up her daughter. National MP Pansy Wong has put out a call through the Chinese media to call with information. Mr Xue’s acquaintances have stated that they know of no reason why he would be going to the US.

A car belonging to Anan Liu was found today at Auckland’s International Airport, however there is nothing to suggest that she has left the country, cctv footage at Auckland International Airport show Mr Xue and Qian alone. Police now hold grave concerns for the safety of Anan Liu.325898

In New Zealand Police are concentrating their efforts on a house in Mt Roskill which has been cordoned off. Mr Xue dropped some property at Henderson Police Station prior to leaving the country and is the subject of a documentary called Kung Fu Father, about the disappearance without trace of his older daughter from a previous marriage 5 years ago, whom he claims ran away while he was overseas teaching martial arts. Police have been given a copy of the documentary. Police are appealing for sightings of Mrs Xue’s white Honda Fit registration DJZ805 between 10am and 4pm on September 14th. The last positive sighting of Annie was on the 10th September.

Mr Xue was convicted in the Waitakere District Court of Assault on Mrs Xue and later a charge of breach of protection order was dismissed.

The Little Pumpkin trust has been set up at the request of Qian Xun’s half sister Grace. Now in her 20s, Grace Xue was born in China and came to New Zealand in 1999. Soon after her arrival, she was also abandoned by the same father. She has since established a new life for herself, putting herself through university. Grace is in a stable relationship with boyfriend, Shane, and their son Edward celebrated his first birthday on September 20.
